RESEARCH
The
advanced oxidation technologies are mainly based in the generation of the hidroxil radical, which has a high oxidation power (only
fluorine is more oxidant than the hydroxyl radical). The potential applications
of the AOT are in the water treatment (drinking water) and in the wastewater
treatment.
Among the different advanced oxidation processes the group does research in
those which use:
and the combination of the AOT with the conventional
biological treatment.
Actually, we are studying
the integration of the AOP with the conventional biologic treatment in order to
make more economic the pollutants degradation. In the experimentation it is
necessary to follow the concentration of pollutants, COD, TOC and BOD. All
these analysis are performed to know if the effluent has decreased its toxicity
and increased its biodegradability in order to be treated by a biological way,
which is more economic than the AOP treatment. This research follows previous
work performed by Dr.
To obtain the experimental
data, we have the appropriate analysis instrumentation (HPLC, GC, spectrophotometry, TOC, COD, BOD).
Additionally there is the Serveis científico-tècnics
de la Universitat de Barcelona for more sophisticate analysis (BET, TEM,
SEM....).
The research performed involves some common pollutants as phenol, chlorophenols, 2,4-D, 2,4-DOH, atrazine, malathion, parathion,
phenols, anilines, emergent pollutants as NSAID, wastewater from pharmaceutical
and pulp and paper industry.
